Love this place the bread is always warm and the soup is always hot. I love their large portions of garlic dip they give you its so good. The menu is great something for everyone and I have never had a bad dish here. Some things are a little overpriced. I enjoy the taboulie salad the best.

I *could* just give this a two-word review: GARLIC SAUCE. That alone would net the place five stars! It's creamy, mild and oh-so-good. I've been here three times and am never disappointed. Good service, cozy, delicious food at a fair price. Fresh bread always, and served right away. I've even gone in for a take-out, and I was served promptly and the food was done in a reasonable amount of time for not having called in the order. This is a good place to check out.

Freshly baked Syrian bread (Lebanese grandfather said 'never say pita'), really good lentil soup. They had my favorite on the menu today- koosa! That's a stuffed squash, specifically a Lebanese variety of light green zucchini that is cored out with a special tool (an aquired skill!). My tool was homemade by a relative. They were delicately flavored and I do prefer the seasonings more noticeable but I have never seen koosa on a menu before so I was delighted with it. The fried kibbe (WHEN will one. single. Lebanese. restaurant make BAKED kibbe?) was good, with great big snoobar (pine nuts) inside. The stuffed grape leaves were handmade and delectable with lamb (so nice to see real lamb and not just boring hamburger). Obviously very lovingly made (were they using my big stone to hold them down in the pan?). Can't wait to go back and try a few more delicious items on the menu! They gave us an extra order of homemade Syrian bread to bring home for no additional charge!

Everything here is truly top notch. From the chicken and lamb shawarma to the grape leaves, fried kibbee, garlic sauce, hummus, etc etc. The freshly baked bread is a real treat, it's a little thicker than expected but this is a great thing because it holds up much better to dips and the like. Portion sizes are very generous so the slightly higher price point is no issue. Service here is also on point, both over the phone and in person. The interior is very nice and would be great for a date or family dinner. Highly recommended!

I enjoyed my lunch at Grape Leaves the other day. I had a chicken shawarma sandwich and the cucumber and yogurt salad. They both tasted very good. The shawarma was up to par with Pita Cafe right down the road. Their bread was just as good too. The service lacked slightly, not in the friendliness department, but in the "our waiter was forgetful" - coffee not delivered, had to signal for water, waiting for him to collect our bill...all of this was not a deal breaker though. My coworker loved her soup, and the other one loved her salad. They do the fresh juices here as well and the prices were pretty standard for the fare. I will definitely go back!

This is one of my favorite restaurants to go to, not only for Middle Eastern food, but for just plain old great food and great service. My friend and I go here once in awhile just to catch up. We have been doing so for about 2 years now, as the food is always so good, the waiters so professional. It's funny, I don't know when we turned into "regulars", but now when we walk in, the servers know to bring us our water with lemon, and already know what we will be ordering! The food is consistently good, and yes, the garlic sauce and hoummus are to die for. They are much better than the "other" restaurant a block away, both in price, food, and atmosphere. For me, grape leaves is a little bit of heaven right here on earth.

We went here on the recommendation of a coworker. In our group of five, everyone enjoyed their meal that varied from salads to sandwiches to entrees. I really enjoyed the hummus but thought the bread was just okay. My coworker really liked it, I think I just prefer pita bread that opens, and this was more regular bread-like. We had garlic spread with it and that was awesome. The lentil soup was good, I would not say amazing though (I did not put lemon on it as some reviewers did so I would try it again with lemon) . I have only eaten at the Oak Park one, so this review does not apply to the Troy location.

I typically go to this place for Middle Eastern food. I love their freshly baked pita bread. The food is pretty good and the prices are not bad. There is never a wait so that is always a plus in my opinion.

Let me start off by saying that the food here is excellent, HOWEVER....the last few times I have been here, I've waited a ridiculous amount of time to be served. The last time I went (which was about a week ago) my sister and myself waited 20 minutes without service. We eventually got up and left. I then called to complain about the amount of time that we waited without being served. The young man on the phone named Casey told me that he was sorry about the wait, and he'd seen us at the table, and had also seen us leave; he asked us to come back (however at that time we were already near another place to eat) because there was a problem with a big takeout order. He then went on to ask me for my name and told me that the next time I came to Grape Leaves that my sister and myself would be compensated for the previous time. Well, today I called to check if Casey was there, and I spoke with him. He then decided to renege on the agreement that we'd previously made, stating that my sister and I hadn't waited that long (contradicting his original statement). The food here is excellent, however the management is beyond poor, and obviously this man is no man of his word. I will not be eating there again.

I would have loved to give a better rating but the service and food is not consistently great. The food is good and similar to other Middle Eastern places such as Pita Cafe. However it is NOT CONSISTENT! I have had garlic spread that was great on Monday and horrible on Wednesday. It seems like they have not mastered a consistency in food preparation across cooks. smh If the food was consistent I would have given 4 stars. I used to buy Crushed Lentil soup by the quart (YUM!!), but some days it would be creamy and good while other days it would be watery as chicken noodle soup. And for $9/quart I want to be satisfied. Service is usually slow. If Casey is there, you better ask for the bill with your order so you don't have to wait 20 minutes at the end. I would recommend this Grape Leaves for its reasonable lunch specials ($9 for a meal with soup and salad). The food presentation is nice (it looks great on the plate). It's also a quieter atmosphere compared to Pita Cafe (a plus!). Guss is a pretty cool server and will take care of you. TIP: You can never go wrong with there hummus and the fresh baked bread. It is really good! And the chicken shawarma lunch is a winner or tawook lunch (but you only get 1 skewer of meat). If you are hungry get the Chicken Tawook dinner if you like white meat.

Ok, yes...I love this place. Still. We eat here weekly and it's always good. I falafel is so freaking good and the grape leaves are always moist. Raw juices and smoothies are incredible. The tabbouli is a joy...very little parsley stems, if any. My only beef is the pita. It's not consistent in taste, texture or doneness. And it has a slight sweet-ish flavor. I would remove a half star if possible. It's ok, definitely edible but not the best. We recently dined at the Maple near Coolidge location. A small place but equally as good in service and food quality.

Great crushed lentil soup, be sure to ask for a fresh lemon wedge to squeeze over the soup. Also had the falafal platter, I believe the falafal may be been over-cooked as something tasted off. Great sesame bread too!

Best hummus on the planet. Great crushed lentil soup. Best Lebanese food in Detroit.

I came to Grape Leaves basically because I had a coupon. My mom was around and wanted to grab dinner so after exploring the many Save magazines that are mailed out I clipped the coupon for GL and away we went. The restaurant was very clean and the service was spot-on, which it should have been since we were the only people dining in the restaurant at the time, though there four or five take-outs that happened during our meal. I had the Vegetarian Ghallaba with the crushed lentil soup for dinner. I also ordered a side of the magic garlic spread which later I would almost regret because my tongue was burning. . . almost regret. The lentil soup was quite flavorful though I did add lemon and pepper to mine. Our meals were served with a bread basket containing the pillowy bread as well as thin and crispy bread. My mother had the Chicken Schwarma dinner with grilled vegetables as a substitution for her side and a salad that looked really great. Both dinners were around $11-13.00 which isn't really so bad. Portions for both meals were also huge! I even took some home which is a rare feat for me. One could get away eating for less too if they opted the sandwich route as opposed to full blown dinner. I found my ghallaba to be quite enjoyable. I still prefer the "zesty" variety available at the new pseudo-La Shish's, like La Feast in downtown Royal Oak. Grape Leaves' rendition included carrots, onions, peppers, and tomatoes served over rice. It had a good flavor, I think I just like the extra kick that zestiness adds. I wonder what makes zesty? I am also curious how their falafel is. . . perhaps if I find another coupon I shall return! Or at least a coupon would be a reason to return quicker than some other Middle Eastern options. We are really fortunate to have so many great options for Middle Eastern food in our area and I think this Grape Leaves locale can be included in that line up.

Had high hopes after good experiences at the Troy location, but they were quickly dashed. Party of four on a Monday evening, not another soul in the restaurant. This should have been easy, right? Problems, how do I count thee? -- way, way overdressed fattoush -- lukewarm crushed lentil soup -- fresh pita was unbearably heavy -- charged for garlic sauce where many other places (including my favorite, La Marsa) provide it gratis -- ordered fattoush shawarma, waiter repeated back the order, then asked if we wanted soup/salad, fries/rice...which we later realized don't come with a salad. What arrived? Hummus and shawarma. Okay, sent it back, then waiter had to come back two more times to verify that we wanted lamb shawarama, not chicken. This finally arrived a good 15 minutes after everyone else's dishes (the original incorrect order arrived 5 minutes after the rest of the food). On the plus side, the hummus with lamb shawarma (another member of our party had ordered the app version) was very good, as were the lamb grape leaves. The garlic spread was delish. But come on...no excuse for this comedy of errors. Back to Pita Cafe I go...

We were NOT impressed with the Grape Leaves Troy location. Slow, terrible service and a cramped atmosphere. However, the new Oak Park location is awesome! They really redid the place before opening (it was a knock-off wings place before Grape Leaves moved in). It looks stellar inside with gorgeous tile work and a big oven. At 5:30 on a Saturday we hit the break between lunch and dinner and we were the only folks inside, but considering Christmas shopping and the odd time, that was great for us. Our servers were all great and the bread... the bread! This was, hands down, the most delicious bread we have ever had in a middle eastern restaurant. We ordered the sampler plate (hummous, baba ganoush, tabbouleh) and each of us ordered a sandwich. My husband got the lamb grape leaves sandwich and I ordered the hummus, falafel & tabbouleh sandwich. The baba is an odd, but good, choice at Grape Leaves. It is smokey, like they just dipped the eggplant into olive oil and threw it into the fire. My husband didn't care for it, but I thought it was appealing. The hummous and tabbouleh were good as well, but the falafel was a real stand-out. Each little patty was perfectly spiced! I also got a carrot/apple raw juice and it was perfectly blended. High-5 to Grape Leaves for their new location and a stellar experience! I love that they are in Oak Park and that they do the city proud.

I've eaten here a few times with Co-workers. The food has been great except for the last time. The waitress brought us dirty coffee cups and plates twice. We weren't sure if we even wanted to eat anything after that. We ended up sending the food back and just drinking water. I don't know what happened to the excellent service and food we had before. I really don't want to say anything bad but our experience was horrible especially because one of the co-workers we brought had her first lunch there and don't want to go back.

We love the food here. At least once a week my office orders carry out. The fresh bread is the best! Never a bad meal, and the service is always friendly.

I wish I could give 1/2 stars, so I could give this place 2 1/2. I've been here TWICE in the last 7 days. The first visit was excellent. The waiter seemed like the manager or owner. He was a consummate professional, keeping me supplied with perfect, piping hot small loaves of bread, asking me at least 3 times if everything was fine. He did this in a very pleasant way. When dining middle eastern, I only order the very traditional dishes, NOTHING AMERICANIZED! If you don't like middle eastern food, please leave. Don't try to impose bland American tastes on ethnic eateries. Anyways, the carrot-beet juice was superb, as was the main dish..Mujadara...lentils & onions cooked in OLIVE OIL, with yogurt. Side salad, although kinda small..compared to the ORIGINAL LA SHISH...was pretty tasty and every morsel was edible..nothing stale or brownish. Also had the garlic spread for my bread...excellent, although it was $1.25. I tipped 20%, thanked my server, assuring him I'd return soon. I truly thought I had found a less busy, less expensive alternative to the very excellent PITA CAFE, just up the street. A few days later, I returned, again for an 8 pm dinner. The place was still just as slow, only 5 other diners in the restaurant. Of course, you know PITA CAFE is jumping this time of night, and I don't like crowds, don't like to wait for a table. So, over comes a different waiter from the night before, and it appears it's just him and the cook tonight running the restaurant. OK...that's how it was a few nights earlier, although THAT waiter was much more personable. I'm not sure if it was the same cook. Oh well. So, this waiter takes my order, which I give him without even looking at the menu, only this time I thought I'd try the VEGETABLE GHALLABA for $10.99, and reward the restaurant for a job well done on my earlier visit. This was more than I wanted to spend on an entree, since the Mujadara was only $8.99, but I figured the Ghallaba portion would be just as huge and the dish just as tasty. I also decided to really SPLURGE on a $4.95..WHOLE POT OF TURKISH COFFEE...which at the OLD LA SHISH or at Beirut Restaurant in Romulus, is a large middle-eastern style pot of most excellent expresso like brew, enough for 5 or 6 small cups of this spiced expresso like brew. Unfortunately, I think the waiter brought only a 1/2 pot since there was only enough coffee for barely 2 small cups. These cups are like 2-3 oz. tops! He then brought 4 small loaves of bread that were sorta warm, kinda flat, NOT PUFFY like the previous visit and brought in a basket with 2 large pieces of crisped pita. These 4 loaves were all burned, blackened charcoal on 1 side of each loaf...yeech! Obviously somebody different was making the bread tonight. Perhaps it was the waiter. I also had to ask for olive oil TWICE. By the time I got it, my bread was cold. I tore off the charcoal black side of each loaf, leaving out on a plate for the waiter to see and hopefully apologize for, offering fresh, warm UNBURNED bread. This never happened. And after my Ghallaba was served, I never saw the waiter again until he brought the check, a 1/2 hour later. Now, the Vegetarian ghallaba was just as good as at La Marsa and only $10.99 instead of $13.99, however, the small dinner salad on this visit was on a par what you'd get at a Ram's Horn, dry, somewhat wilted, with only a glob of dressing in the middle of the mostly iceberg lettuce with only some bits of carrot and onion, basically a nasty salad on par with what you might get at RAMS HORN. So, for $16.85. I got maybe 5 oz. of espresso, 3 oz. of edible salad and maybe 12 oz. of veggies with sauce and some rice. I could've eaten much better for much less at Al Ameer, Hamido or RAMS HORN. Oh, my tip? It was ZERO. Yes, I won't be returning! I guess the moral of the story, when dining Middle Eastern, STAY IN DEARBORN, or at least WAYNE COUNTY, for best quality, consistency & VALUE or at least go to PITA CAFE when near Oak Park.

The folks that work here were very nice to my grandmother and I and that pushes them into four stars. As far as food, I particularly enjoyed the huge comfortable booths, the baba ganoush, and the bread. My grandma loved the squash with lamb&rice stuffing. I wasn't a huge fan of the kafta (a little dry) or the chicken with jalapenos. We also had decent soups (whole lentil and a chicken soup). A ton of people were coming for carry-outs while we were eating dinner. My grandmother also celebrated her bday at this place.

I'm glad this place is reasonably close to where I live, because it's good. Today I got spinach pie, a lamb shawarma sandwich, tabooli, and babaganoush. IT was a lot of food with plenty of leftovers and it was all good. The sandwich was delicious. The pita bread was the nice warm puffy kind. The baba was nice and smokey and lemony. My only possible complaint would be that the spinach pies were on the tiny side - but they were really good. Let's face it - there are a ton of really wonderful Lebanese restos in the area - and this is one of them.

When I'm a work and I want falafel, I go here. Their falafel is adequate. It is not perfect, it's actually a bit on the bland side, but it has a nice texture. Their lentil soup needs salt, but is otherwise flavorful and delicious. Bread, as others have reported it fresh, hot, and good. I always do carry out, but the dining room seems quite nice. It's reasonably priced, 8.25 for a soup and sandwich with tip.
